The Grey King

Susan Cooper was born in 1935 and grew up in Buckinghamshire.  She earned a degree in English at the University of Oxford.  After she graduated she worked for the Sunday Times, a newspaper in London, England, and wrote books in her spare time.  She left England in 1963 and moved to America and began writing full time. 

Her work included fictional books for children and adults, a series of picture books, film screenplays, and plays.

She received a Newberry Award for The Grey King, a Newberry Honor Citation for The Dark is Rising, the Tir na n-Og Award for The Grey King and Silver on the Tree, and the Janusz Korcak Literary Prize for Seaward.
